PTAS Annual Christmas Bird Count takes place at the Heard Museum and Sanctuary in McKinney, where the pictures below were taken during one of the team's expositions.

A Great Horned Owl flew to a tree on the edge of the clearing and allowed the birders to walk right up to the tree for nice long look.

A second exciting moment was when one of the birders waded out and opened a Wood Duck nest box to show us an immature Eastern Screech Owl that had taken up residence there.
